More of the Wedding

As our wedding was a budget affair it involved a lot of DIY.

I found these picture at some stage during the planning and fell in love with them.

A tiara was never going to be me, or really anything blingy at all, but I loved the idea of a hairband.

On the big fabric shopping day, I had it in my mind that I needed to get something for my hair. I was really lucky and found 2 pieces of lace in The Woolen Mills on the quays in Dublin that were perfect. One for my dress and one for my hairband. I also got some ivory satin ribbon and some pearl bits. All together the elements of the hairband probably cost around €10.

And look what my very talented Mum did with these elements....

She sewed pearl beads onto the lace and then stitched the piece of lace onto the piece of ribbon

Also a bargain for the DIY bargain hunter out there was the veil. This cost about €25. I bought some tulle in Hickeys and cut out what I thought was a veil shape out of it. I used a little leaf stitch on my sewing machine to finish the edges. Then sewed it onto a comb, also from Hickeys, for a huge 60c!

If anyone gets headaches from wearing hairbands I would definitely recommend wearing a hairband on a ribbon, much more comfortable.

  1. Oh! Your collar is BEAUTIFUL! I want a collar on my dress too, and I am LOVING your one.
Big yay to the DIY stuff too. I'm going to get cracking on my birdcage veil in the next few days, methinks.

  2. Thanks so much. DIY veil is definitely the way to go. So much cheaper. Don't forget to post pics when you're done (or maybe even as you go along).
